2016 Interns
2015 Interns

"I believe that this internship really changed me and my views for my future. I met so many other people my age with the same aspirations and beliefs that I became really close with. Working with my judge was amazing and led me to know so much about the legal system. The speakers on Fridays also provided a lot of important insight, such as how college use social media and other career paths we may never have considered, such as the Marines. It was truly an amazing way to spend my summer and I look forward to recommending the program to others at my school."

- Mery Concepion, SCS HSJIP Alumna from Summer of 2015

"Overall, I enjoyed my experience in this internship. I loved the judge that I was assigned to, the work environment was great, and meeting Sonia Sotomayor was the icing on the cake! I would recommend this to anyone and I am so glad to be a part of this program. Thank you for making this internship such a wonderful learning environment for me."

- Sara Fox, SCS HSJIP Alumna from Summer of 2015

"Overall, this was an experience of a lifetime. Few high school students can say that they were able to work first hand with a Supreme Court Judge in NY and meet one of the 9 Supreme Court Justices. I would say that this was the best summer yet. I can't wait to see the new developments the SCS HSJIP has to offer."

- Asiya Jaffer, SCS HSJIP Alumna from Summer of 2015

"I personally really liked Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto. She is a great Judge and taught me many new things. I liked the fact that she always made sure that I knew what was going on in the courtroom. This internship has been a great experience and it has shown me that being a lawyer is a career that I want to pursue in the future. Also, before the internship I was unsure whether I wanted to be a prosecutor or a defender, but after the internship experience I believe I would like to be a defender. In addition, even though I spent most of my internship observing, I could say that I did enjoy it because I learned a lot and met new people."

- Wayner Jimbo, SCS HSJIP Alumna from Summer of 2015

"During the course of five weeks I interned at the Civil Court of the City of New York Bronx Housing Part, with the Honorable Judge Javier E. Vargas. I was exposed to the daily operations of the courtroom and a variety of cases. I studied attorneys as they presented their cases to the court and observed court proceedings, trails and inquests. Working closely with courtroom personnel such as judges, court attorneys, law clerks and court officers gave me the opportunity to learn more about their responsibilities and functions within the judicial system. I also had a chance to sit in on a jury trial in the Bronx Supreme Court and visit the New York County Family Court where I observed Judge Gloria Sosa-Lintner as she made decisions on custody cases. One of the most exciting parts of the program was being able to meet Justice Sonia Sotomayor at the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse, who came to address interns of the program and describe her life and experiences in the Supreme Court. My summer experience at the Housing Court was rewarding and I am amazed at everything I was able to do and learn in only five weeks."
